SPATI - Solid Propulsion Model Rocketry

SPATI is North Space’s founding project and a cornerstone of its engineering identity. Focused on the design and development of solid-propellant rockets, SPATI enables students to gain practical experience in propulsion, structures, avionics, aerodynamics, and systems engineering.

The project is consolidated through participation in the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC), where North Space competes alongside Europe’s top university teams. Now in its third iteration, SPATI-III represents a significant leap in technological maturity, integrating advanced simulations, in-house subsystems, and experimental payloads.

BART - Autonomous Rover & Drone

BART marks North Space’s entry into space robotics and planetary exploration. The project focuses on the development of an autonomous rover and drone capable of navigating complex terrain, collecting scientific samples, and operating in simulated extraterrestrial environments.

Combining mechanical design, electronics, control systems, and advanced software, BART prepares members for real-world challenges in robotics, autonomy, and artificial intelligence. The team targets participation in the European Rover Challenge, reinforcing Portugal’s presence in the international space robotics community.

ASTRA - Research & Development

ASTRA is North Space’s research and innovation hub. Its mission is to explore emerging aerospace technologies and experimental concepts that may later be integrated into flagship projects such as SPATI and BART, or become their own project.

From advanced propulsion systems to satellite technologies, ASTRA fosters creativity, autonomy, and scientific curiosity. The team works on forward-looking topics including thrust vectoring, active control systems, CanSats, CubeSats, and liquid propulsion, helping members develop strong research and problem-solving skills.
